EV brakes and suspension

An EV brakes mostly with its motor. Discs and pads last longer, but because they are used so little they rust, calipers seize and pads drag. So we clean and lubricate the brakes, replace discs and pads per axle and test the brake fluid.

The battery makes an EV hundreds of kilograms heavier than a comparable combustion car, which puts more load on control arms, bushes, ball joints and shocks. We replace worn parts and align the wheels after any suspension work. We only lift the car at the manufacturer's jacking points so the battery is not damaged.

04 — FAQ

What people ask

Why do EV brakes seize?

In normal driving, regeneration does the braking and the friction brakes are barely used. The discs rust and the caliper slides lose their grease, especially after a salty winter.

How often should the brakes be checked?

We recommend cleaning and lubricating the calipers once a year, ideally after winter. Tesla lists this in its maintenance plan for regions where roads are salted.

Which EV makes do you repair?

All of them — Tesla, electric BMWs and Jaguars, and others.
